DIRECTV STREAM competes directly with live TV streaming options like YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and Fubo. It also competes with satellite and cable TV providers, including DIRECTV itself. Finally, it competes with on-demand streaming services, including Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video, and even free services like XUMO and PBS Kids. Lucky for you, if you buy the streaming box, you can access several of these on-demand services without changing inputs on your TV.
DIRECTV STREAM is a solid choice if you want the best of the best, but the most expensive package costs more than twice as much as the closest live TV streaming competitors.
For most sports lovers, we recommend fuboTV for its smaller price tag and a better mobile experience. If you love on-demand shows and movies, you’ll save a lot by choosing a few services like HBO Max and Netflix. If you don’t care about sports but want all the feel-good holiday movies and home renovation shows you can handle, we recommend taking Philo for a spin.

DIRECTV STREAM says you can watch unlimited simultaneous streams at home and up to three away from home, but we think it works best on a regular TV equipped with DIRECTV’s custom streaming box. We were able to watch simultaneously on browsers, mobile phones, and other streaming devices, but ran into minor—but irritating—issues on each.
