Since Blue by ADT represents the DIY arm of ADT, it mainly competes with other DIY companies. Though, there are certainly customers who will choose Blue over professionally installed security systems such as Vivint and even ADT itself.
Blue by ADT and ADT offer very different services, despite the similar names. ADT requires you to subscribe to its professional monitoring service, which starts at around $45 a month, and you’ll need to commit to a three-year contract when you sign up. Blue by ADT gives you the option to choose between professional monitoring, which costs about $20 a month, and free self-monitoring.
You’ll pay more for ADT equipment as well. Its packages start at about $420, whereas you can get a Blue by ADT system for about $180. ADT’s equipment is higher end, featuring full-color touch screens and sleek window and door sensors and environmental detectors. You can also choose from a broad range of home automation equipment with ADT. With Blue by ADT, you’ll need to add home automation via a third-party company that’s compatible with the system, such as Google Nest.
Choose Blue by ADT if you want an affordable security system that doesn’t require you to commit to a contract. If you’re after high-end hardware and access to a broad range of home automation equipment, then go with ADT’s full service.
